RLV Look Protector - Configuration and Setup

In addition to configuration of the notecard, at the bottom of this page are instructions for setup of Physics Layer Swapping and the Quick Dress options.

Clothing and Attachment Locking

The item locking configuration information is in the file named: "CONFIG" and consists of a list of clothes and attachment points that you want to lock to prevent changes.

There are some quirkly behaviors and limitations that you need to be aware of.

  • Even with clothing parts Locked, you can still stack another item using "add", but you can not "wear" or "take off" an item.
  • For locked Attachment Points, you can still "add" another item, but you can not "detach" an item. And if you attempt to "wear" an attachment, it will briefly appear on your avatar and then be automatically detached.
  • Some devices have their own ability to lock their attachment point. If you lock that same point using this HUD, you will have to unlock both the HUD and the device before it can be removed.

And remember, to edit the configuration notecard, you will need to "unlock HUD".

The configuration notecard

The keywords for clothes and attachment points are all UPPERCASE.

You enable/disable locking by adding or remvoing a pound sign (#) in fromt of the keyword, which make the line a comment.

In addition, there is one more keyword that is used with the Allow/Block IM feature.

# FRIEND your__friend's__ key [ Optional Name ]

You can add several FRIEND keywords to make a exception to the "Block IM" function and these people will always be able to IM you.

Setup for Physics Layer Swapping

Avatar Physics can add considerable reality to your avatar's movements while walking or dancing. The trouble is that often the physics settings that look good for one outfit or activity may not be quite right for another. But because the layer can now be changed just like clothing, you can create several definitions -- such as a layer for when wearing a swimsuit and another firmer one appropriate for when wearing a corset.

But what about when walking or dancing with the same outfit? The Look Protector HUD provides a solution.

  1. Create three physics layers: Call them Firm, Average and Loose for example

(You can actually name the layers anything you want, but those are the general meanings for them). So let's say you name them: MyFirmPhysics, MyAveragePhysics, MyLoosePhysics.

  2. Now create some special folders.
    1. Place a folder named #RLV just under your top level Inventory folder.
    2. And inside this #RLV folder, create a folder named "Physics".
    3. And inside the Physics folder, create folders named: PhysicsFirm, PhysicsAverage and PhysicsLoose (these must the be exact names)

    Now your inventory looks like:

    Inventory
    --- #RLV
    --- ---- Physics
    --- ---- --- PhysicsFirm
    --- ---- --- PhysicsAverage
    --- ---- --- PhysicsLoose

  3. Now put YOUR Physics Layers (or the samples provided in this box) into those folders for that your inventory looks like
    Inventory
    --- #RLV
    --- ---- Physics
    --- ---- ---- PhysicsFirm
    --- ---- ---- ---- MyFirmPhysics
    --- ---- --- PhysicsAverage
    --- ---- ---- --- MyAveragehysics
    --- ---- --- PhysicsLoose
    --- ---- ---- --- MyLoosePhysics

Your Look Protector HUD will now show buttons for these folders and you can switch which physics layer is active without going into your inventory.

Setup for the Quick Dress Buttons

Quick Dress allows you to quickly wear a folder of clothes should you find yourself inappropriately dressed when you TP into a region. You can have three quick dress folders. They must be named: Quick Dress, Quick Dress 2, Quick Dress 3.

Create quick dress folders your #RLV folder.

Then add any clothes or objects you want to wear to this folders when the "Quick Dress" button is pressed on the HUD.

Inventory
--- #RLV
--- ---- Quick Dress
--- ---- ---- shirt
--- ---- ---- pants
--- ---- ---- belt
--- ---- ---- shoe base
--- ---- ---- left shoe
--- ---- ---- right shoe
--- ---- Quick Dress 2
--- ---- ---- ...
--- ---- Quick Dress 3
--- ---- ---- ...

The quick dress buttons will remove any clothes and attachments not locked on, before adding the contents of the folder.

Attachment items that will not attach or attach in the wrong place.

The first time you manually select an item from your inventory to attach, you specify the attachment point. The item is then automatically renamed to add the attachment point to the end of it's name. This allows the item to be re-attached to the same point without you needing to specify it each time.

However this will not work with items that are "No Modify". So here is how you can work around this...

Taken from the RLV API specification.

HOW TO SHARE NO-MODIFY ITEMS

As you already know, no-mod items cannot be renamed so the technique is a bit more complex. Create a sub-folder inside the outfit folder (such as "cuffs" in the example above), put ONE no-modify item in it. When wearing the object, you'll see the folder itself be renamed (that's why you must not put more than one object inside it). So if your outfit contains several no-mod objects, you'll need to create as many folders and put the no-mod objects in them, one in each folder.

Example with no-modify shoes :

My Inventory
|- #RLV
| \- shoes
| |- left shoe (left foot)
| | \- left shoe (no modify) (no transfer) <-- no-mod object
| |- right shoe (right foot)
| | \- right shoe (no modify) (no transfer) <-- no-mod object
| \- shoe base (no modify) (no transfer) <-- this is not an object

|- Body Parts

Setup for the HUDs and Weapons Buttons

Both of these buttons work in the same way. They will remove or add items contained in their respective folders.

Place all of your HUDs (except this one) in #RLV --> HUDs. And put weapons (or anything else) in #RLV-->Weapons
